In the Postalm hiking region, which stretches out across Austria’s largest alpine pasture plateau, families with kids, leisure hikers and athletic mountain summit seekers can enjoy many well-marked hiking trails at all levels of difficulty. The Postalm hiking region in Salzburger Land is easily reached via the Postalm alpine road from May until October. Many parking spots along the wide mountain road also act as the starting point for hiking trails, themed hikes and mountain summit hikes.

At the Postalm road toll booth you can get an information booklet in which all the hiking trails in the Postalm hiking region are detailed. Now nothing stands between you and hiking in the Alps at a comfortable altitude of 1,000 – 2,000m above sea level! On forest trails, gravel trails and paths through alpine meadows, you can hike from one alpine chalet to the next, explore the alpine flower trail or celebrate reaching the summit of the Gschlößl (1,452m) or the Labenberg (1,642m). In winter , numerous winter hiking trails, snowshoe trails and backcountry ski tours invite you to explore the Postalm area.

The Postalm received its name from the postal service’s horses which spent their summers in these pastures. Even today, many farm animals spend the summer at the Postalm. You can try the locally-made products at the alpine chalets in the Postalm region. Enjoy flavourful bacon, crusty bread, delicious alp cheese and homemade schnapps.
